DOUBLE DIGITS…… Finally! We have given away 10 bikes. Wait! Correction! You have given away ten bikes. Through everyone’s support and through faith in God, we have finally broken into the double digits.
Noemi is currently studying music in NYC. Noemi relies heavily on bicycles for daily life. She explained that they “not only save me money, but allow me to travel freely through the city”. Noemi told us that she used to have a bicycle given to her by one of her friends. As Noemi described this bike, we could tell it was special to her.
Unfortunately, Noemi’s bicycle was stolen outside of her school. Noemi was devastated. As a full time student, purchasing a bicycle could not be a priority. She told us that life without her bicycle had been more difficult. She was itching to get another bike.
When Noemi had called us, we were not sure we had the right bicycle for her. We have been making a big push to make sure we match people up with the bike that’s right for them. Previously, Noemi had a hybrid bicycle, which we did not have at the time of her call. However, we did have an old road bike, the Fuji Sagres.
Although the Fuji did not have the same geometry as the hybrid, we knew it would be perfect for Noemi. We were able to tune it up and throw on a rack. The bike is from the mid 80’s, which makes it extremely customizable and durable. The bike is perfect for anyone’s daily commute. Once Noemi hopped on, we could all tell it was perfect.
A few weeks after Noemi had the Fuji, she emailed us this amazing poem inspired by the bicycle. We don’t think much more needs to be said:
These magical wheels make me feel like a bird
Weightless and powerful.
Riding through the streets of New York
Endless passers by
Lights and colors vanishing as quickly as they appeared.
The air caresses my face,
Sometimes cars get too close
But I smile
Because possibilities are endless.
My pulse accelerates, the hill goes up.
These magical wheels are my freedom
Bridges, roads, parks
Streets and trees
Are accompanying me on my journey.
The sun inundates me with warmth
I get lost in the blue sky.
The hill starts to lean down
I sigh of relief. What a joy!
Thank you, magical wheels.
If you know someone else that needs a bicycle, tell them to get in touch with us. We would love to help!
As always, breaking barriers to cycling.
